Equities Index Futures

Forex futures contract (also known as currency futures contract) is an exchange-traded contract to buy or sell a specified amount of a given currency at a predetermined price on a set date in the future (expiration/settlement date). All Forex futures are written with a specific settlement (expiration) date, at which point delivery of the currency must take place unless an offsetting trade is made on the initial position. Forex Investors can close out the currency futures contract at any time prior to the contract's delivery date. However, most contracts are closed out before delivery date.

First time Currency futures were first created and traded at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) in 1972. As a rule, US dollar is one of the currencies and the price of the future is defined in US dollars per unit of other currency.

The two main factors that attract investors into Forex futures market is protection against the risk involved with cross-border transactions and speculation on currency exchange-rate fluctuations.
